UPDATED SETTLEMENT MECHANISM ON THE DAY-AHEAD AND INTRADAY MARKETS MINIMIZES FINANCIAL RISKS FOR THE SPOT MARKET

02.02.2026

As of 1 February 2026, amendments to the Day-Ahead Market and Intraday Market Rules (DAM/IDM Rules) have entered into force. These amendments are aimed at ensuring the fulfillment of financial obligations arising from the purchase and sale of electrical energy.

Under the updated procedure, following the calculation of volumes and prices on the Day-Ahead Market (DAM) and the determination of the financial obligations of DAM/IDM participants, JSC “Market Operator” submits payment instructions (demands) to banks for the debiting of funds. Information on DAM settlements is provided to market participants, and trading results are published only after the full amount of financial obligations has been debited.

The need for these amendments was driven by a systemic risk identified in the course of applying escrow accounts. In certain cases, funds held in escrow accounts of DAM/IDM participants during the period between gate closure on the DAM and the moment of fund debiting were subject to seizure.

In order to address the aforementioned issue, minimize financial risks, and prevent the occurrence of indebtedness on the part of JSC “Market Operator,” the Company initiated the relevant amendments to the DAM/IDM Rules. The proposed amendments underwent the full regulatory procedure and were approved by Resolution No. 1603 of the National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission of Ukraine (NEURC) dated 7 October 2025.

Given the critical importance of DAM price information for market participants, preliminary aggregated trading results for the Day-Ahead Market will be published in the software system “Electricity Trading System (ETS/UA).” If authorized persons do not have access to ETS/UA, login credentials for the specified software will be sent by email to authorized persons who have access to XMtrade/PXS.

The final trading results will be published upon completion of all settlement procedures in accordance with the requirements of the DAM/IDM Rules.
